Dear Friends,
Thanks for following my first blog and I appreciate your views on the topic. Your response makes a neophyte like me to write the second. Some took it in a perfect light, but I am afraid, some fail to understand the underlying theme. Never mind, friends. Hota hai….
‘SUICIDE’ – a word which makes some fearful, some shocked, some paranoid and what not. But for some it’s certainly a great escape – escape from the struggle of life, forever. May be the inner pressure, inevitable circumstances, death-frightening diseases ,in some cases love affair or may be the lacking energy to face the obstacles….. God knows what makes them commit suicide, leaving this beautiful world, beloved family and friends. Really is there no other way besides committing suicide ? More especially I am concerned and surprised at the student’s inability to go forth and confront the challenges.
Dear students, happiness is not a thing you achieve and store somewhere. It has to be achieved from time to time from some simple day-to-day events. E.g. some derive happiness out of helping somebody or preparing a dish in leisure and ‘make’ others eat. This , I am sure, not a great deal, is it ?Wise people say ‘ to be happy everyday is to be not happy at all’. You are unaware of the fact that you have not yet started facing the ‘music of life’. People generally are in the pursuit of happiness, but fail to realize this present is actually the state of happiness. Realizing too late is really wasting our life. I recently heard about an old man who says,” I have known so many troubles, but some of them never happened.” Your parents, your seniors will definitely proclaim they have left their golden era in their ‘alma mater’. No place in the world is more beautiful than your school. It’s not a prison. It will always remain in your memory and remember ‘memories are not only the lifeless thoughts, they come alive’. Worst of the worst school-mate or most – hated teacher during school life may prove vigor and vitality in your future life, mark my words. One of my colleague narrated a poem, in which the poet says, a student who is much depressed in the struggle of life and has lost all the courage to encounter the challenges in life, returns to his old school teacher and asks nothing but tells most modestly,”Guruji, mala tumchya kadun kahihi nako ahe, tumhi khandyavar hat thevun fakt ladh mhana.” That’s what I say is the true essence of a school and the school teachers.
Meek dullards, wake up ! Are the studies so boring and burdensome ? Do you know student scoring 60% marks in English would be the university topper ? The senior most English master in Miraj and a genuine learner even at the age of seventy-odd, Mr.Banda Phadke sir told me he was the recipient of a prize in English at Intermediate and guess what…. he was below 60% marks in English. Very rarely they got a first-class.Are you aware being a SSC was a herculean task before ? And people had to walk miles, through hilly terrains just to reach school or college ? They didn’t have the facilities which you care damn ? Now have a look at the scores at the SSC & HSC levels. It’s not the student’s skill and talent, (though there are exceptions) as you know well, but the scoring is certainly encouraging. Cherry on the cake, one can join junior college even after failing in two subjects. Amazing ! Have a look at Mathematics, one can opt lower level Maths, no D - level problems. You ask something and you have it. Goodness only knows what will be the fate of these students. Still, still we read everyday the student’s committing suicides. Now what more you want ? Do you expect your teachers and parents to appear for your exams ? Absolutely not a single reason is so strong to compel you to leave this world, without thinking about your parents and other intimates.
Have we really become so weak mentally ? Are the teachers failing in their job ? Do parents look indifferent about their children’s feelings ? Is the condition around too unbearable ? Countless questions surge in my mind, but no question is rhetorical. I find myself speechless. Whatever the answer is, in my view life is a great struggle- fight back – DON’T QUIT
Yours,
Gramopdhye Sir
Hello Sir,
ReplyDeleteJust read your blog and I completely agree with your views. I would like to put few lines of my favorite poem, Don't quit. I have pasted this one on the wall and go through it every time I feel low and need the boost to fight back :) -
When things go wrong, as they sometimes will,
When the road you're trudging seems all uphill,
When the funds are low and the debts are high,
And you want to smile, but you have to sigh,
When care is pressing you down a bit,
Rest, if you must, but don't you quit.
Life is queer with its twists and turns,
As every one of us sometimes learns,
And many a failure turns about,
When he might have won had he stuck it out;
Don't give up though the pace seems slow--
You may succeed with another blow.
Often the goal is nearer than,
It seems to a faint and faltering man,
Often the struggler has given up,
When he might have captured the victor's cup,
And he learned too late when the night slipped down,
How close he was to the golden crown.
Success is failure turned inside out--
The silver tint of the clouds of doubt,
And you never can tell how close you are,
It may be near when it seems so far,
So stick to the fight when you're hardest hit--
It's when things seem worst that you must not quit.

Happy Writing!!!
Hello Sir,
ReplyDeleteI am totally agree with your views. But according to me, the basic reason behind such suicides is not the failure in the exam but the inferiority complex of "How can I fail when others have passed".
At good times one never asks GOD "Why me?" then one possesses no right to complain in bad times..."Why me?"
We should stop complaining about what we don't get. Instead, we should capitalize on what we get. Students should realize that there is a different world altogether other than studies.
Expect efforts and not results. In reality, Adversity or failure is a light in which you can find yourself.
Keep blogging Sir.
Sir,
ReplyDeleteNow and then you post something and I tend to think about it, then I realize life is easier, not that hard as it seems to be !!
I mean, I agree with half the part you said, life is beautiful, one should not quit. Somehow, if things are happening, there have to be reasons behind it. It is natural to ask why you quit when you have so many facilities and all. However, my analysis to this is, you provide all facilities just to see your kid become what you thought he would be one day. May be things are not simpler the way they were or we think they were. May be our parents didn't force us to complete their dreams. Nor our teachers did.
Now a days, teaching a kid is not a thought process may be, it is manufacturing process. It is not the right product that we build, it is the way we build right product. We had fun while solving D group, they think its worth 15 marks!! Here is the difference. I value people who try to solve problem on their own, not the ones who think what is the outcome.
For sure, parents and teachers cant write exams for you, however, they can give you Freedom. Competition never killed anybody, its the comparison that kills. If grown-ups dont understand this, how do we expect poor kids to face the music and win? I am not supporting the act of suicide or even giving up, what I think is we need to get the process right.
I understand, professionals doing it is a crime, not little kids. If their succeding is parents' and teachers' pride then their failure is too their responsibility, I think. We should not say why he/she did this, we should say what forced him/her to do this, and correct it..the most important.
I just kept writing because there are no marks at stake ... kidding ... cant write for marks. Just my view.
Hi Sir..finally, you posted your 2nd article after a long time. Congrats for keeping your blog alive..:D:D.
ReplyDeleteSuicide – sign of person’s weak mentality and cowardness. I agree with you completely. We get to read the news of students committing suicides daily just like there is Thought of The Day in the newspaper. It is said always that we get the human life after passing though “84 laksh Yonis”. Then why to end such a precious life??? And the reasons behind it are really shocking. How a guy or girl can commit suicide due to the fear of engineering exams??? Engineering is far apart even 10th or 12th students???? Unbelievable…Actually no reason can be considered valid for suicides.
If we go deeper in this subject, we can find the reasons behind it to some extent. The mindset of such students is quite difficult to understand. They, themselves, are not aware of what they actually want. Sometimes, they are overprotected by their parents, so they can’t face any challenge on their own. Sometimes, they know already, what is going to happen ,but they are not ready to accept the fact. There is not a single person in this world who has not come across any problem throughout his life. No one can understand about our problems until we speak up. When you are not ready to share your problem, how can you expect anyone to help you???? At the most someone can guide us, but finally we have to help ourselves. And if we want to achieve something, we have to cross all the hurdles coming in between. There are ups-downs in life always. Everybody might have faced depression at a certain stage. What would have happened if everybody has thought of committing suicide??? We should just take care that this depression should not overcome our mind so that we will not be able to think anything else than it. If you never try to come out of your depression, you will just sink into it. But why should we wait till this stage comes??? Can’t we discuss our problems with our friends, parents, teachers??? For students if the meaning of life at their stage is to get a bike for going to college, a multimedia mobile and computer with internet, unlimited money for parties, then there is a big question mark on their thinking.
There is happiness at every moment if we are finding for that. But if you are ignoring it, then you will be always depressed and no one can help you in it. When any unexpected, critical situation is there, many ways of handling it arise first in our mind. We should be enough strong and mature to select the proper one. Our family, friend are always there to support us. And each individual has got tremendous mind power which often neglected. With its help, one can achieve whatever he wants. But we never try to understand it, we never give a chance to understand ourselves. After all, it’s upto us that in what way we look at the situation. If we take it in a right spirit, then there is no problem. Life is much more than these fake things. No one is telling you that you should live your life like Vivekanand and beyond that it’s out of our reach. But at least we can enjoy what is in front of us. We must broaden our views towards life.
ReplyDeleteAnd if we start looking positively towards simple events, we will not even get time to worry about anything. As you said Sir, someone can get happiness by preparing dish in leisure time and making other to eat it (at this moment, we will not consider the situation of the people who have to eat that dish..;)…for this, Naik Sir will agree with me 100%..:D). I become happy even if I get a Cadbury (yeah, there are people who promised me to give a Cadbury, but I have not got it yet. And they always pretend to forget it. May be, this might be their own way of getting happiness…can’t help it…). In the life of a student, along with school days, college days are the fabulous days of life. I get immense pleasure even in sitting at last bench, chitchatting among friends while the lecture is going on (all enjoy it..;)..). Also I can enjoy reading books continuously for 7-8 hours. If you observe any college campus, you will get only fun and happy faces. There are only a few people who instead of enjoying it prefer something else…crazy guys..!!
But I am enough sure, that we can get “n” number of joys in life, if we live it to the fullest and when we are really happy we do our work more sincerely and with more efficiency. And if we always work in this way, we even will not understand when we achieved our target…..So enjoy all the flavors of life because we get this beautiful life only once…
Really nice blog.. I ran out of word-limit to express my thoughts on this.. Please go to following link..

Sir, awesome post; like always.
ReplyDeleteI just would like to add few lines from Mahatma Gandhi which always kept me going through failure
"First they ignore you. Then they laugh at you.
Then they fight with you. Then.. YOU WIN."
Its the fighting spirit one has to cultivate and then suicidal thoughts dont haunt you at all.
Cheers
Sandy
Sir,
ReplyDeleteIts an amazing blog. And I totally agree with you. SUICIDE is really a burning issue now a days. Though the quality of education has lowered to a great extent, the mentality of the students has not changed. But, its becoming too weak day by day.
I would just like to say that its better to take everything in a positive manner rather than to do damn silly things like committing suicides...
God knows what will happen!!!!
